i have a pc at work that is a pain in the ass. its a p2 266 running win98se. its network speed varies and i cant seem to find where the problem is. ive switched the card, patch cord, and hub port. no difference. its an old card i dont have drivers for, so i used the generic NE2000 drivers that dont allow me to change the LAN speed (i.e. half duplex, full duplex). im out of options and would appreciate any suggestions

Try getting the correct drivers or picking up a new card that is supported...
Other than that you may want to remember that it is a 266... try adding more RAM or something to boost it's speed.

Ne2000--means that the network card is using ISA bus architecture, right? Check the brand of the NIC/LAN card and surf the correct driver from its manufacturer as Mike had suggested and download it.
