I have a XP, ME and Linux computer set up as Peer-to-Peer network. All have 100MB FD NIC cards through a 100MB FD Linksys Switch.
I did not realize how poor the transfer speed was between the Windows computers was until I put the Linux PC on the network... it runs approx 3 times faster on file transfers. Funny though, as the Linux box is the slowest PC I have.
Sandra Network Benchmark shows everything to be ok.
XP to/from WinME :9698kB's per sec
XP to/from Linux :8500kB's per secIn real life, transferring a 230MB file it takes 3 minutes between the windows computers and approx 1 min from either XP/ME computer to/from the Linux PC!
Computer Specs are as follows:
Linux PC
P233MMX, 96MB SDRAM
HD=WDC 3.2GB, 5400RPM/UDMA33XP PC
Cel900, 512MB SDRAM
HD=MAX 20GB, 7200RPM/UDMA66ME PC
Cel700, 256MB SDRAM
HD=WDC 10GB, 5400RPM/UDMA66Anyone have any ideas? Protocol is TCP/IP with SMB to the Linux box. NETBIOS is OFF.
