Hi,

My hardware list.

1. 3 desktop computers (WinXP) with network cards. One of it is connected to the internet via a 1 port DSL modem.
2. I just bought a 4 port router (DLINK wired) and 2 Cat 5 UTP cable to physically connect all computers.

My questions:
1. How do I connect the 2 other computers so that all could share the internet access by using the router?
2. What do I need to change in the host computer WinXP settings so that the other two computers could use the DSL connection? (Enable internet sharing?)
3. As for the other 2 computers, how do I set them so that they could communicate with the host? Do I need to assign IP or it is the router which will do the assigning job? Do I need to change the settings in WinXP manually?

Please help.....

Play it safe!

If the one port DSL Modem has a RJ45 connection, then you just take a cable from modem rj45 to router wan. All other PC's are cabled into the routers ports 1 to 4.

Then run the Network setup wizard on each PC....

U must run "Network setup wizard" on the router itself not on the pc's.

If a disk came with the router I suggest you run it with only one computer connected. After one is working you may not need to run any wizards, depending on what versions of Windows you are using.

If sharing of files or printers is desired you will need to enable file and print sharing on each computer. The method to do that varies with the OS.
