We are sharing internet on 3 systems on a LAN, and the speed of downloading and surfing is good and there was no problem. But from a few days a problem is slowing down the speed of my system. In the three Systems on LAN one system is creating problems whenever that system is started the speed of the internet slows down on my system and from a download speed of 60kbps we get only 5 to 10kbps, and surfing speed also slow down.We have checked for a spyware with "adaware-se personal" but the system is not infected with any virus or spyware.

Also the speed fluctuates from 0 to 10 it goes to 0kbps and remain 0 for 5 to 6 seconds and again goes to 10kbps.The ping command shows reply for some seconds and then request timed out for few seconds.

It is just not happening in windows XP i use windows 2000pro also there also this problem exists.

You could look at the data with wireshark.

You can and should have firewalls set to protect both ip numbers, ranges of ports and applications. You can also do that at network settings and routers.

Forget ping, it is not a test as such. Use pathping or tracert but still things can skew that result.

A performance monitor/taskmanager is used on that xp to see bandwidth.

With the wireshark results you can determine ip address to see what is going on.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Ping is very usefull and a good indicator of performance issues. Adware doesnt check for viruses so if you dont have antivirus on the machines install avast (free) and scan the machine with spybot (free)

if the machine is not wireless it could also be a dodgy network card or cable or port on the router that the machine is connected to..

Hi all,

extremely slowness may cause by the following:
-Network congestions
-Poor rooting
-bad cabling
-Electric interference
Overloaded server at remote end of the connection
-Virus in LAN

Troubleshooting
******************
-if u have cisco router restart it,
-if u have LINUXBOX as Router also u can restart.
-also u can restart IDU or any INDOOR UNIT to reflesh ur network.
-NB: use 2mins or 5mins to switch on.
