I have two PCs at home with high speed cable access via a router. Both computers can access the internet as per usual. Both computer #1 and computer #2 CAN PING the router IP. Computer #1 CAN ping computer #2 BUT computer #2 CANNOT make PING computer #1. Both are XP SP2. I AM BAFFLED. I have reviewed all firewall settings ETC and the ROUTER settings but CANNOT find anything to explain why computer #2 can't ping computer #1.

Have you check the properties of the network card (local area network)on Computer #2? There are settings there that can block Ping (ICMP Messages). Go to Windows Firewall/Advanced Settings for the network card.
