Is it possible to join 2 computers that are physically far apart by using the internet ?
like a lan i need to do that cause i wanna play with my friend a pc game and use the lan option and the reason is this game only got lan not mp for online so what i wanted to do is connect his comp to mine so it looks like he's on my network and on a lan
i dont have a lan or router at my house i got dsl direct connection to the net so does he how do i make it so we can connect like a lan from each other's home. i want a internet lan connection

You should be able to play without creating a LAN across the internet. Most every multiplayer game comes with a TCP/IP connection where one of you starts the game and tells the other his IP address (via a chat program like ICQ or over the phone) and the other connects directly to that IP address by typing it in the TCP/IP connection window.

Actually most new games force you to connect to thier server in order to play multiplayer over the internet. They allow you to host your own game without connecting to thier server, but only within your own LAN.
I am wondering if it is possible to make a computer that is somewhere remote (on the internet) look like it is part of the LAN.

well, the 2 replies are right...
but i also have the same problem... and it's because it's an older game. actually not that old (about 1 year), but it will only scan the lan and it has ni option for including an IP adress. Now to play this game in Multiplayer, you need min. 3 players. So i usually don't have 3 pc's at my home, which is why you can imagine why i wanna make it run.i would (i assume the poster of this question, too) be very grateful then to know if anyone knows the answer to this instead of lecturing anyone about how to connect online with a game that is MEANT to do so. I think we are all very smart enough to know that ourselves and wouldn't need to psot this question here.
Thank you.

Yes it is possible. Simply set up a virtual private network (VPN). Think of it as a virtual LAN constructed across physically separate machines via internet TCP/IP.
Once connected, you will be able to add IPX/SPX protocol in order to play those LAN-only games.
