I used to get a local area network icon for this laptop but now I do not. I only get an icon for the wireless adapter. Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. I want to use my laptop at home via a lan connection like the one I use for my desktop. Why no icon?

I am going to assume that you can not see the local area network icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This is becuase there is a setting that you have to enable for it to show up. Follow these instructions:

1.) Click Start
2.) Click Control Panel
3.) On the left side of control panel click "switch to classic view"
4.) Double Click Network Connections
5.) Right Click on "Local Area Connection"
6.) Click Properties
7.) In the Local Area Connection Properties Box there should be two check boxes at the bottom. Make sure there is a check-mark on "Show in in notification area when connected"

That should allow you to see the icon from your desktop in the lower right hand corner of your screen.

Thank you but no, it is not merely a question of seeing the icon in the task bar. It is the fact that there is no icon in the Network Connection box. LAN network is not showing up. The only Icon I have in Network Connections is for the Wireless Lan but it was there once.
