Ive set up a home network between 2 computers at home using a crossover cable. One machine has xp pro the other win ME. I did everything using the wizards on xp which shares its cable connection to the internet. the Porblem: The client machine running win ME has no problems getting around the LAN connection or accesing the internet. The Host running XP takes forever or freezes up when i have it try to get into the shared stuff on the client computer. Whats up with that? someone suggeted getting a router but will this even address the LAN problem?

No.. do not go out and buy a router UNLESS you are sharing 1 Internet Connection (BROADBAND, etc.) All you need to do is check your settings.
What protocol are you using? If you are using a non-routable protocol(NetBEUI), there should be no problem. If you are not sharing the internet; I would suggest using NETBEUI to avoid other problems. If you intend to share the internet in the future, setup your network with TCP/IP. Make sure that both computers have the same protocol, same Workgroup name, and the same settings (make sure that the TCP/IP settings include Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP).
