OK, my internet connection keeps going out every 8-12 hours or so. If I reset the my cable modem and router, it works fine again. I am currently running modem>WRT54GS (flashed DD-WRT)>4 wired PC's and 2 wireless laptops.
I had initially thought it was the modem as I hooked up my old router (non-wireless linksys, I forget the model) and the same thing happened. I purchased a new modem last night and hooked it up and all was going well. When I woke up this morning, I found that the same thing had happened. I try to connect and I get a server unavailable message or some such. I reset modem and router and all was working again.
I hooked up my old router again to see if it does the same thing with the new modem and the old router. We'll see what it is like when I get home from work. the problem I have is, since my ISP says the signal is good etc. and it doesn't seem to be the modem or the router as swapping them both yields the same results, whats next? Could it be a PC on the network? Could it be an outside source? I am lost, please help.

Are all of the machines losing connectivity? Have you changed the cable that connects the modem to the router?

Yes, it is all the machines and I have swapped cables.

Just a trouble-shooting procedure you may have already tried:
Have you tried just connecting a single computer to the modem, not using a router at all. That would be a difficult test because it would limit Internet connectivity to only a single computer for however long it took to believe the results, but if it showed that single computer never loses connectivity then it would be a good indicator that the problem has something to do with the router configuration. Also, if the single computer does lose connectivity in the same way (and it does this for both modems, since you have 2 now), then that would provide a stronger argument to your ISP that maybe they should take a closer look at things. Just because they report a "good signal" at a single point in time doesn't say a thing, because your signal seems fine at times and only intermeditately drops out.

I will try that too. The issue is that I provide the network for my whole building, so it is rather inconvinient for my other tennants to go without for 8-112 hours or however long it will take. However, if that is what it takes to fix this problem, well, they will have to be patient. it is driving me crazy.
