I have just bought myself a wireless network and adapters for my home network. I have 3 pcs and an adsl connection. I have no idea about DHCP or any of those fancy words. I have drawn a pciture below to show of what I THINK I should do?? Can someone tell me what to do?? is this correct??

___ ADSL router with only one LAN port. Router IP address 192.128.0.1, subnet = 255.255.255.0, also has address given to me by my ISP. Has DHCP turned on and only accepts connection from the range of 192.128.0.2-192.128.0.2 only

___ Wireless router with 5 LAN ports and one WAN port. A crossover cable goes from the one ADSL LAN port to one of the 5 LAN ports on the wireless router. This router has an IP address of 192.128.0.2, subnet mask = 255.255.2550. Has DHCP turned on to accept connections from the range of 192.128.03-192.128.0.5.

___ PC1 IP address = 192.128.03, subnet = 255.255.255.0, default gateway =192.128.0.1

___PC2 IP address = 192.128.04, subnet = 255.255.255.0, default gateway =192.128.0.1

__PC3 IP address = 192.128.05, subnet = 255.255.255.0, default gateway =192.128.0.1

I know I have to turn WEP encryption on the wireless router and also the MAC addresses have to be entered into the wireless router.

Any help here will be so much appreciated.

Thanks

You should have a regular patch cable going from the adsl modem port to the wireless routers wan port.

By using a crossover to the routers lan ports you bypassed routing and have turned the router into a glorified switch.

Concerning mac address and wep key, those are covered in the manual. Just follow the instuctions in the manual or go into the router and utilize the help concerning that item.

Thank you wanderer.

Does this mean that the rest of the setup that I described is correct??

I am comfortable with the MAC and WEP stuff but I was just worried about the DHCP and whether the connections were correct i.e only accpet connections from the IP addresses named for the ADSL router and wireless router.
