Is there a way to play an MMORPG at work...

My work has a wireless network. I can brin gin my laptop and connect to the net but it won't let me connect to the D&D Online server or websites like Netflix (I mean it connects to the website, but you can't stream movies, you get a network connection error).

Is there a way to get around this? I work at a university where my job is to sit here all day, making sure everyone signs the sign-in sheet and that no one brings food in. There's no rocket science here and honestly, I'm starting to die a little inside...

Here we go again........................

Since it's a university and you can connect to the site, but can't stream the video, I would say it's more than likely the university itself is blocking video streaming.

The only logical option you have is to contact the universities IT department and ask them if they can help you.

I doubt they will though as it's likely their policy to not allow bandwidth hogging things like video streaming to happen on their network.

I wouldn't try to circumvent this as doing so is a criminal act and would likely lead to criminal charges as well as expulsion if you're a student, or getting fired if you're staff.

Trust me, as a network technician who works at a university, they watch for people trying to bypass their security. If you attempt it, you will get caught.

May I suggest you bring a good book to work with you instead. Books are always better than the movie and it's not likely against any policy to bring one with you.

I don't want to do anything criminal. It's my laptop afterall and I don't seek to "get around" security.

The laptop might be yours but the internet server belongs to the university and it is their right to dictate what can and cannot be accessed using their facilities. Build a bridge ( & get over it)
