depending in what you're trying to do you should try or not to
learn a bit more about it, for home use I just use skype;

You didn't google "softphone" did you.

A quick google search of 'softphone' will give you an explanation of what it is and what it does.

Once you've googled that, google "IP phone" and read up on them and then VOILA! you'll know the difference.

All that diagram is showing is a sales pitch that says it supports all of the above which includes softphone via the internet.

softphone= software as through a PC
ip phone=hardware device no pc no software.

doesn't appear this is a very serious inquiry

btw the reason i asked is because were planning to migrate from PBX to IP PBX.
