Hi,
I'm baffled by this scenario. My 4 port linksys router is spitting out IP addresses to my two machines, XP and ME. Both are getting internet and have consecutive IP addresses 192.168.1.100,and 192.168.1.101 my router LAN address is of course 192.168.1.1. The problem is I cannot get the two computers to see each other. From the Me machine i cannot ping the router address which shows up as the default gateway and which is giving me my internet access. I can browse into the router from the Me machine and from the XP machine. From the XP machine I can ping the router but not the Me machine.
What the trip is going on? Both workgroup names are MSHOME and sometimes show up under entire network and sometimes it don't. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Dave

This might be a routing table issue on the router. Since all pcs are connecting to the 4 port router, I would look into the router's routing table and make sure it knows how to get back to the PC (which interface).
Maybe you should try putting a hub or switch in between the router and pcs. Make sure all subnet masks are the same on all PCs and routers.

Sounds like you have some sort of firewall issue. You're saying you can "browse" your router from the ME (I assume you mean you can access it from the web browser), but you can't ping the router from the same machine, is classic firewall ICMP blocking. Usually ICMP is the first thing a firewall blocks to prevent "ping of death" attacks.
Do you have, or ever had a firewall installed?
D

Thanks for the replies,
No firewall ever installed. However I am running Mcrapfee Office on the Me machine which may have firewall. I'll disable and try again. Also, I got a hub to throw into the mix. Subnet masks are same and workgroups both match.
