I recently deleted a lot of spyware applications and other similar programs from my machine. Some of them required unconventional methods of deletion (not through add/remove software) When I cleaned up my machine it turned out that I have no internet connection. My machine is behind the router. Let me first tell you what I did. My LAN ip is class C 192... so the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 .(this is used by my remaining computers) In the TCP/IP protocol properties I checked assigning IP addresses automatically. However, when I run ipconfig it could not find gateway and dns server. Furthermore i checked the properties of the connection and under support option my ip address was different than my network address (how could it be possible if my router DHCP should take care of this?) also my subnet mask was 255.255.0.0 . Afterwards I went to TCP/IP properties for that connection and assigned IP address, default gateway, and two default dns ip's manually. It didn't work either. So my question is can anyone tell me what was going on with my machine and what I was forgetting to do?
