My internet connection is cutting out constantly and I'm seeing an error message pop up from the taskbar saying this...

"windows system error
there is an ip address conflict with another system on the network"

In the system event viewer there are all kinds of tcp/ip, dhcp, and service control manager errors and warnings saying that it can't renew the address from the network with my network card. A temporary fix is to repair the connection, but that doesn't last.

How do I resolve the ip conflict?

Change your IP address to one that isn't in use on your LAN.

There are only 2 computers sharing the internet connection thru the router and both of them are always listed as having a different ip address. Although, normally conputer 1 is 192.168.1.100 and computer 2 is 192.168.1.101 and now they're opposite what they usually are, wouldn't think thats a problem.

Should I set each to have a static address maybe?

Also, how would I change my ip address anyway?

write down the mac address of both nic cards.

Next time you get the message about a ip conflict it lists the mac address. If this listed mac address is yours then you need to correct your router/ip settings.

If not, then it could be a issue with your isp and not your local lan.

Easiest to do dhcp from the router. No need to changes anything. Should be no need to static [reserved] ip
