IP Change in Windows 2003

Specs: Windows 2003 entreprise edition
Hi everyone, This one seem to be a challenge, at least for me. (it may be not a specific Virtual PC related problem, but I prefered to mention it anyway)

I run windows server 2003 Under Virtual PC. It has its own IP adress. (my hosting machine uses a totally different ip adress. I configured the VPC to use the network card directly, which is the right think to do for using VPC as a server).

I installed parallel plesk 8.3, which recognized the IP, and so I can run my websites. No prob for now. And also I could surf the internet using IE7 from my Virtual PC. (very useful when using rapidshare ;)

One day my IP changed for no reason. (it's an IP given by my internet provider, so I have no control over it. and this is a home pc, not linked to any network. It is linked to the modem, which is linked to the cable provider.)

So suddenly my virtual PC was connected from a new IP. and when I checked the ip in network connection, all was working fine, but with a new ip assigned.

So I changed the IP settings of Plesk services with the plesk configurator. It worked. It changed turned all the services to the new ip.

So I just had to edit the IP of the nameservers at godaddy, which I Did. and everything worked. still no prob. My websites were online again.

But I dont know why, I couldnt connect to internet with any application from my virtual PC since that new IP arrived. I mean before I was able to surf internet with IE7 on the Virtual PC but once the Ip changed, it was no more possible. But my websites were online and worked fine? How is that possible?

I presumed that Plesk changed the IP for the services it runs only, but left some other services unchaned. And somehow, the IP change affected some services in Windows 2003 that affects my internet connection...

2 days after, something strange happens. My old IP is back.
So I reconfigure Plesk, godaddy, etc... and I can surf internet again with IE7 and all applications can use internet again?

What the hell is that??? :))

if u can help, thanks a lot.

nomailx.

It's because you automatically retrieve the ip. you should specify the ip adress. the reason the browser doesn't work should be because u need also to specify the alternate and preffered DNS IPs.

Works fine with 2003, but it doesn't work with 2003. even though I specify all kind of IPS, and prefered and alternate ip adresses.

any Idea?
