hi
i recently read about ip_aliasing for ethernet card, while goin through the configuration HOWTOs for linux server installation and configuration.

Actually I have started my project for Intrusion detection using log analysis and linux server installtn is the 1st step.
My question here is why is ip aliasing not so famous?, does it have any disadvantages or conflicts? i mean why isnt it much used at the Research and Development level, especially thtin network security? All tests can be conducted on a standalone computer. Projects could be carrried out on a standalone comp 1st.

PLease tell me more details wrt above on ip aliasing.

Thanks
amogh
