IP Address - Router to Switch

I'd like to run a line from my router to a switch which will then feed several PCs. The distance between these points is considerable to where running multiple runs of CAT5 doesn't seem practical.
My Netgear router has a Log and some blocking capabilities. My question is whether or not the router will just see 1 IP address (ie the switch) or if it will see the IP addresses of each of the machines attached to the switch.

It'll see all the PC's.

Are you using DHCP on the router? It should not see your switch at all. It will assign IPs to all the comps connected to the switch if you use DHCP. Use the uplink port on the switch if you have it, or a cross over cable to connect the two.

Each segment of a LAN should not be more than 150' or the packet signal strength may degrade too much to assure reliable throughput. A switch or hub will terminate the segment and 'refresh' the packet before sending it on down the line. Switches are pretty much all the same; I'd get the same make as my router to simplify technical support issues. A 1 or 2 year warranty as opposed to a 30 day warranty would be nice.

the absolute max length of a cat5 cable span is 100meters or approx 300 feet. orion is right when saying you might not want to exceed 150 feet. Any switch will do brand name or not, they all do the same thing. make sure you will have a uplink port on the switch or you have a crossover to hook the switch to the router if they do not support auto uplink.
