I was at work today and they asked me to help setup an additional wireless access point on the network. First of all let me explain the setup. It's a Dell server. The cable modem runs to a node and the node runs to a Linksys 8 port switch. Everything (server, other pcs, access point, etc.) is connected to the switch. We got the access point (Linksys wap11) hooked up but there was no communitcation between the access point and the computer. The link light on the switch lit up but the other two lights were out. During the setup I had the access point automatically obtain an ip address. I'm almost positve that the broadband service they use at work (time warner road runner) uses a static ip address because they will be adding a website in the near furture. So I went back into the setup on the access point and changed it to a static address. I checked the systems info about the ip address, subnet, etc and put the ip address from there into the setup of the access point. As soon as I did this I got an error message about a network conflict. At this point I realized the mistake I had made. The problem is that when I went to run the Linksys setup again it couldn't find an access point connected to the network. I tried reseting the access point and even unplugging it from the switch all together, but I kept getting the conflict message. I restarted the server and when I did I still got the error message and was unable to get on the internet and kept getting the conflict message. When I tried to run the Linksys setup again I got a message that network device wasn't ready. I'm really stumped here and have no idea what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

disconnect the wap and connect to it directly with a crossover cable so you can change the ip address.

I am assuming your "modem runs to a node" means you are using a computer not a router for internet access?

How are you assigning ip addresses on your network?

Golly gee wilerkers everyone. Learn to Internet Search
