Subject: IP address - not in UKOS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: 900MHz/256MBModel/Manufacturer: Mesh |
Comment: When I try to watch video on the BBC Apprentice site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/apprentice/) from Oxford, UK, I am told that I cannot access the video because my IP address does not come from the UK, but my housemate who is on the same Network and should therefore have the same IP address can access the video without any problems. Is there anything I can do?

Reply: (edit)I doubt the message is correct. More likely the site has registered your PUBLIC ip address [one on your routers wan port]. Perhaps your room mate was watching the same show at the same time? One ip one access Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Reply: (edit)It may come because of your ISP uses satellite uplink as backup one and switches to satellite uplink if general one is down, in this case, earth receiver may located in any european country and gives you non-UK IP.

Reply: (edit)No, he was not watching it at the same time. If it was reading my public IP address, and not his, is there any way I can make the BBC treat my computer in the same way it treats his????

Reply: (edit)First off your room mate doesn't have the same ip address as you do. Just as Post Office stops have to be unique so do ip addresses. What is his ip address and what is yours? Only post the last 3 octets so it would look like x.168.0.1 and 2 Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Reply: (edit)99% of the time your roomy will have same address as you and your gateway will provide NAT services. Is it possible your PC is configured to use a proxy server? Whay dont you and your roomy go to www.whatismyip.com and see what result you get? If you are using a proxy server and he or she isnt it will show up on there. good luck.
