I have a windows xp box with a HP SC500 attached to it. Windows xp has native support for this printer/scanner/copier. I have a win98se box which I have installed the windows 98se version drivers for this printer on. File and Print sharing is setup and I can see and copy files to and from both computers. The windows 98se box can see the printer on the XP box. In the settings of the printer on the win98se box I can successfully set the port to \\network name of xp box\network name of printer. Under XP the printer does a test page just fine. Under win98se it says invalid access code whenever I try to print to the printer on the xp box. ICS nor ICF is running on either box. I have cable modem access with a linksys router. netbuei nor ipx/spx protocols are installed, just tcp/ip. As I said file sharing and internet access is fine and the printers are viewable to all. But I can figure out this access code stuff and can find no mention of it anywhere.

Notify me as well. i posted #114012. It is configured exactly like yours except 98SE can print to one XP printer, but not the other.

I had a similar issue with win98 and NT4 using hp jet direct interface which was shared on NT4. It would not let me print directly to the printer. I couldnt print from 98 to the HP unless I had the spooler enabled on NT4. I enabled the spooler and now everything is working fine. Doesnt relate to xp but worth a look.

I can't explain why this worked but I was having the same problem (Lexmark E210 [usb] shared on XP and trying to print from Windows 98SE). After uninstalling/reinstalling several times on the 98SE box, I finally completely removed it from XP, redownloaded the driver (same one as before) and reinstalled it. I didn't set anything special beyond default sharing and such. I then reinstalled it on the 98SE machine (choosing not to keep the driver that was still floating around) and it worked like a charm.

So basically, I just uninstalled/reinstalled on XP, then added it to other workstation and had no probs.

Wierd!
