internet works but not wireless internet

Netgear / Wgr614v7
June 1, 2010 at 15:41:16
Specs: Windows XP
My desktop gets internet fine, but the two laptops in the house have stopped getting wireless. I have recently added memory to the compaq pressario sr1130nx desktop.
I have tried to type 192.168.1.1 into google, but do not get a screen that allows a login with "admin" and "password"- as suggested often.
I have reset modem and router (2 min off) with no results. The laptops detect the wireless router. When I "repair" the router, it gets stuck on "renewing your IP address". IP address under "Support" tab on network connection status is all 0000000's

Finally, when I get the login page, I get this message no matter what I type in.

"The server 192.168.1.1 at WGR614v7 requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)."

Too much info guy

Who setup the router? Has it been setup and working previously?

Does the router logon page look like this?

http://documentation.netgear.com/wg...
This is a link to your routers manual.

Normally netgears use 192.168.0.1 not x.x.1.1.

"I have tried to type 192.168.1.1 into google"

Sorry but it REALLY helps to read the manual. You don't use google for anything in this case.

You either type in
http://routerlogin.net
or
http://router ip address
in the address bar then hit go

My daughter put it in in 2007 (she is out of the country). It worked fine for 2.5 years. Then, probably by coincidence, when I put in the extra RAM, it stopped working- maybe not then exactly, as nobody tried to use wireless.
Since receiving your answer-- thank you very much, I have gone through the reinstal (instal actually) wizard. The wizard "checks my internet connection"
When the netgear wizard is restarting my network, I get a window Connect to routerlogin.com I need a username and password. I have been told to use admin and password for those fields, but never get any result but access denied.
This message - as noted before- is on the box.
"The server 192.168.1.1 at WGR614v7 requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)."

Thanks, John F.
