Prior to taking the position I'm in now, I was living on an acreage about 30 miles from the city I worked in. So I was on dialup.
I had a 56.6k modem but the best connection rate I ever got was about 28.8 due to distance and line noise. I had the telco send a guy out who did some testing and even put a filter on the line but it never helped.
You may be having a similar issue. What is your average connection rate and what speed modem are you using?
Is it a hardware or software modem? Just FYI, software modems suck.
One last thing. I've been on the internet since the mid 90's when a friend started his own ISP. I did some work for him helping him setup his server, digiboard and modem pool so in return, he gave me a free account. At the time I had the fastest modem available 14.4k Back then most web sites were pretty much graphic free so web pages loaded relatively fast.
In today's world where the majority are on highspeed, websites are saturated with graphics, videos and music. All of which take a lot more bandwidth. If you're on dialup trying to connect to a site with a lot of graphics, it's going to grind real real slow and there's just nothing you can do about that.
