I am a beginner on the server side, We have recently purchased a server for the purpose of creating a domain, sharing files, and share the dial-up internet connection to domain users.
i have setup the domain using windows 2003 server and clients can communicate with the server and others.
the problem i have is sharing the internet connection. I am using dial-up modem for internet connection and D-link switch for the network. All the clients are with WinXP OS.
Please comment whether my demands are possible with the current hardware. And sujjest me how to start this to work.
You would need to engage RRAS on the server and configure it. Doing this thru dialup is a waste of time in my opinion. At best with a 54K connection with 5 users they, in theory, would each get a 10k connection. It will take forever just to load a web page.
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
We are in a situation that there is no option other than dial-up to access the internet.
Yes i want to share this connection to domain whatever the speed gets to individual systems. We will have some understanding within our staff to make it work by limiting the number of users access the internet at a particular time.
