quick question.. can my DSL router be a hub? I want my linux machine to be a server so it can be a webhost using Apaxche, and want to share the connection with my WIn XP and roommates Win 2000 Pro machine. Could it act as a hub somehow or will i need to buy a seperate hub?

Depends on the router. Most routers have a built in switch which will do the same job as a hub, some don't. If not you will need a seperate hub/switch.
Note. Hubs are virtually obsolete now. A switch will do the same job as a hub and better. It used to be that a switch was only used when absolutely meccessay because it was far more expesive than a hub.
The price of switches and hubs have since come down considerably that the price differential now makes buying a switch is only slightly more expensive than a hub for more facilities.
