Hi,

I have 2 PC's both windows xp home. PC1 is connected
with a wireless adapter to a router which is connected to a
modem. PC2 is connected to PC1 with a firewire cable. I
have setup a network between them and can successfully
share files however i want to share the internet
connection on PC1 with PC2. I have tried bridging
connections on PC1 and setting both static and dynamic
IP's with no avail. I have tried setting firewire connection
on PC1 to share my computers internet connection and
then on PC2 set the default gateway to the IP on PC1. I
can't get it to work. Please Help.

Connect PC2 to the router. You can still share your files. I have 5 PCs on a network. I can share anything I want.

On pc1 what is the ip on the nic? It can't be 192.168.0.x and have internet connection sharing work. This is the usual reason bridging/ics doesn't work.

If this is the case you need to change your routers lan to something like 192.168.1.x.

Engage ICS between the nic and firewire connection on pc1.

Though connecting to the router certainly is the way to go.

Example of Oxymoron:

Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion.

Abstinence training clearly isn't working.

ICS might work.

I'd use Analogx's proxy to share the connection. It doesn't care about the IP address. See read me on how to set up the second computer's browser proxy settings.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Guappo. PC1 and 2 are right next to each other, the wireless router which PC1 is connected to is a couple of rooms away otherwise i would have gone with that option. What should I set the ip on the 1394 connection on both PC's should it be different to the nic eg. 192.168.0.x instead of 192.168.1.x

I have experience in running wires through houses and buildings and IMO, it's still easier than trying to use a PC as a router. I never had good luck with ICS. However, the answer to your question is no. Don't put them on separate subnets.

I got it working. I set the IP of the router to 192.168.2.1 because when i set it to
192.168.1.1 it didn't work then i just enabled ICS and on PC2 set up connection to
obtain IP automatically

Thanks everyone for your help
