Hello, I am trying to get an icon at the bottom of the screen (sys tray?) showing a connection. I hooked up my XP machine to DSL thru a router. The XP computer has a lan icon in the tray. I then installed a D-link ethernet card in the win98 machine and hooked the cat5 cable to the same modem (4 port) as the XP machine. The win98 machine doesn't have a icon showing a connection. Both have internet access. How is this accomplished? Thank you, J

Windows 9x/ME does not have a network connection icon for the system tray. If you have some add-on connections software like PPPoE support for connecting to the modem through the Ethernet, it usually has a systray icon. But if you just connect to the local Network, which then has Internet connection through ICS or a router, you get no connection icon in the Systray.
