Internet Explorer wont work

Specs: Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3
I am trying to access the internet on my Toshiba Laptop Satellite M115. I am using Internet Explorer and run off of my home wireless network via router. The connection page shows that I am connected onto the internet, but when I try to access it, I can't get any sites to come through. Any help to resolve this would be great. Thank you.

Two easy checks you might to want to make to start with:

Open Internet Explorer
Go to the 'File' drop-down menu.
Make sure that "Work Offline" is NOT ticked.
If it is, click it to remove tick.

Now, go to 'Tools' --> Internet Options
Click the 'Connections' tab
Click the 'LAN Settings' button.
All three tick-boxes should be UNTICKED in LAN Settings dialog.
Click 'OK'
Restart Internet Explorer.
