Hey,
I am networking four computers (with various OS) through a wireless access point and router that is connected to a modem. The router and access point are linksys and the cards are various makes. The ISP is blueyonder via broadband cable.
The Internet connection drops out repeatedly and randomly even when surfing ie. not idle (The computers remain connected to each other). This is usually for a matter of minutes but varies. Sometimes I have to restart the modem and router to get it going again. I don’t know if it’s relevant but I've noticed that if anyone is running kazaa the problem is worst. If only one computer is on, there is rarely a problem.
Could it be a settings thing, maybe interference, or can blueyonder just not handle routers?

Are you dropping connection (signal) on the wireless computers or is it all the computers? If your dropping your connection (broadband) then you need to talk to your ISP. If your dropping the signal then that could be many reasons.
You said;
"I don’t know if it’s relevant but I've noticed that if anyone is running kazaa the problem is worst."This sounds like a bandwidth problem. If someone is downloading something off of Kazaa and you get kicked off then your broadband connection is at its limit.

All the computers are wireless so it's impossible to tell for sure. But one of the cards has a WLAN monitor that comes with the software and according to it the connection with the router is always good and its the connection to the internet that drops.
If you try to talk to telewest about routers they clam up and tell you they can't give tech support for them.
As for kazaa, is it actually possible to kill your connection this way? Does kazaa not adjust it's download rate to fit the available bandwidth?

If you can I would do some investigating on your network. If you have a regular wired port on your router and if one of your computers has a Ethernet 10/100 nic in it I would connect the two together to see if you’re still getting kicked off and make sure its not a wireless issue. You need to find that out first.
On the router make sure your using a regular port and NOT the uplink or WAN port. Using a regular CAT5 10/100 PATCH cable (NOT crossover cable) connect the two together. Disable your wireless nic card for the time being. You can always go back and enable it. I would leave it that way for a couple of days to see what happens and find out for sure if its your ISP or your wireless connection. Dropping your connection from your ISP has nothing to do with your router. Your router is most likely using DHCP (assigning IP addresses) and your computers are "Obtaining an IP Address Automatically" from the router. On your router make sure you have the latest firmware (very important!) That could fix a lot of your problem right there.
Using Kazaa can do a lot of bad things to your system. Kazaa is full of spyware, virus, trojans, so on and so on. If your using Kazaa please make sure your using a firewall. Make sure your antivirus is up-to-date. Run Ad-aware and Spybot S&D often and keep those updated (very important). After all of that run SpywareBlaster on your system and keep it updated.
