trying to connect to my ISP starts the process with starting communication setup : 12:07:50 --. goes through the process and end with remote computer did not respond .
Re-trying gives a different series of numbers each time. Is this a virus?. If not what do I do?

It could be a number of things. Is it cable or DSL? What modem & router do you have? What OS is your PC?
How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

This morning I have managed to open up my internet connection on my PC although there is still a problem and the original problem might well re-occur.
I am using a thomson speedtouch ADSL modem on connected to my landline.
I Know there are compatability issues with Vista but thought I had sorted them out with a download whic has worked for several months. My PC is a Dell Inspiron 530 with Intel Core (TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @2.2Ghz with 2GB RAM and a 32 bit OS.
It runs on Vista Home Premium service pack 1.
I hope this is sufficient info.
Please realise I am far from expert as you can probably tell. The other problem (which may be linked ) is that for the last 2-3 days when it does connect it tells me "cant find server ", it is trying to connect to wanadoo.co.uk.
It connects to " www.google.co.uk/hws/dell-usuk/ " with a list on screen, I pick Wanadoo Broadband and it then does a search. I open orange.co.uk and connect to my usual homepage.Until afew days ago this did not happen.
I don,t think I have changed any settins. Thanks for your help.

Sorry I used the wrong box to reply to you guapo.

There shouldn't be any problems with a Dell running Vista & DSL. Open a command prompt, run ipconfig /all & post the output.

This is what I get.

I'm not familiar with UK setups but your computer is getting an IP address along with the correct DNS entries.
You mentioned that it's connected to your land line. Is that how it's done over there or is there a special line from the interface?
How is the speedtouch connected to the PC?
How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Sorry for the delay in replying .
The message went to my junk folder for some reason even though previuos messages did not.
The Speedtouch is connected to the computer by USB and to the internet through a filter to the normal landline.
The problem seems to have solved itself as I have had no trouble (except normal ones due to slowness at busy times ) since my last message.
The other problem I have cured by changing my default home page to www.orange.co.uk.I think this may what it used to be. If so I do not understand how it could have been changed to www.wanadoo.co.uk .
I do not think I changed it inadvertently.
Thank you for your help. It is really appreciated.
I am really pleased that I have found this site since I am obviously far from expert.
I get most of my help from my sons but they are not always available to help and I do not like to impose too much as they have busy lives of their own.
Again thank you.
