Comment: I've bought a crosslinked cable to connect to my other computer which has win98, my computer has winme... i know the winme computer has all the right settings because when i go to the networking in control panel, it gives me a billion things for internet sharing, plus i got an icon in task bar and when i dbl click on it, it says internet sharing enabled.... my other computer barely has anything in its control panel> networking, it has no internet connection things either, so can anyone please tell me how to set up an internet connection sharing thing... btw, the computer that has internet connection is my WINME computer, it has DSL connected to it

Reply: (edit)did you setup device drivers for the network card? goto control panel->network. In the window it should list your Network card. It may also have MS network client file and print sharing IPX, NETBUI and TCP/IP. If TCP/IP isn't present, click add->protocol->microsoft->TCP/IP. You can remove the rest unless you use them for something. Windows netowkring will work over TCPIP but makesure to run a firewall on the computer connected to the internet. Anywho, when it has a TCP/IP thing listed in the Network control panel check the properties for it. It should have "obtain IP automaticly" selected. Restart if asked and it should work. To try it connect the ME machine to internet and on the 98 machine open up a network program and it should start working.

Reply: (edit)David, I have the same Problem, using a Cross-Over Network Cable to link the HOST & CLIENT PCs together, everything's fine except for the ICS. As far as I know, There's NO WAY to use the MC ICS via DSL line. Because DSL connection requires to use a P.O.P.o.E adapter, and MC ICS does NOT support it. I have tried so many times, and NOBODY else I KNOW have any SUCCESS. If anybody have a success with MC ICS w/DSL please Let me know.

Reply: (edit)Correction: it's P.P.P.o.E adapter. And I tried Dial-up Adapter (56K modem) works fine just not in DSL connection.

Reply: (edit)It's a lot easier to set up a proxy server and use the internet through that. Also, proxy servers give you a lot more features like restrictions and logging. The best proxy that I've seen is AllegroSurf, sold by MTD Technologies at www.mtdnetwork.com
