i am trying to set up internet connection sharing between a vista machine (host) and an XP machine (client).
i have followed guidelines from various pages on the internet but i still cannot get it working. here is what ive donei gave up on using dhcp addressing between the host and client as this wasnt working so i tried using static ip's instead.
the host and the server are connected by a wired connection (through a switch). the host is connected to the internet through a wireless connection to a router.here are the IP settings from the connection:
host-
wireless connection (to the internet, using automatic addressing):
ip - 192.168.0.120
mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.10
wired connection (to client, using static addressing):
ip - 192.168.0.1
mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - noneclient-
wired connection (to the host, using static addressing):
ip - 192.168.0.2
mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1with this connection i can get the internet on the host machine but not on the client. both the host and client can ping each other successfully. but the cleint fails when attempting to ping the router (192.168.0.10). the host can ping the router and as i said, connect to the internet.
any idea what im doing wrong?

The RJ45 cable between the two PC's must be a Xover/Crossover type not a Patch cable.
You must use the ICS setup on the host to bind the Connection Sharing and create a basic DHCP server, on the Guest TCP/IP "auto assign from DHCP"

Did you set the internet explorer settings for that gateway?
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
