I have 2 PCs. I wanted to temporarily use ICS until I get a wireless router. Well, I decided to hook my first PC up to the modem with USB. Then, I'd connect the 2 PCs with LAN using the cable I use now to connect to the modem. Anyway, when I connect the 2 together, the LAN jack doesn't light up and it says "a network cable is disconnected"...a friend said I'd need a crossover cable. I really don't want to buy anything because this is only temporary....any other ideas on how to fix it? Or another idea on how to connect the 2?

In case you need it, my modem is a Westell 2200

Which then I'd say just fork the money for the router since they're so cheap.

Your solution for a cheap way to temporarily avoid buying a router is to buy a router? Nice.

A crossover cable is an order of magnitude cheaper (dramatic, ain't it?) than even that craptastic router. So, since the object is to shoestring a temporary solution, I'd say just use a crossover cable.

When wireless routers these days are anywhere from $10-50 after rebate, why even waste $10 roughly for a temporary solution?

It was a suggestion to not waste money on a cable he'll probably never use again. And it was a suggestion. I'll go to confession tomorrow for forgiveness. *rolling eyes*

BTW, Best Buy is offering a Belkin 54G wireless router for $10 after rebate, not that I'm a big fan of them, but if it doesn't work, you could always take it back.
