Comment:

My main PC has one network card connected to the internet via a cable modem and a second wireless network card which I use to share the internet connection with my laptop.

I have just built another PC which I would also like to connect to the net via the main PC.

The new PC has a network card (not wireless) and I have a spare PCI network card I could fit to my main PC.

Is it possible to connect the spare network card to the main PC and share the internet connection thru it to the new PC or will I have to disable Internet Connection sharing on the wireless card first?

Hope this makes sense :-)

Any advise is gratefully received.

ICS is a program we are best to ignore once we obtain broadband internet (some dinosaurs refuse to die).

Rather than going through all that hassle, get a Router. The cable modem plugs into the router. Each computer plugs into the router (not each other).

Host computer no longer needs to be on, EACH computer now has its own fully independant internet connection...

...and more security!

Thanks for the suggestion Martin...

However,

Because my ISP only permits one connection per account, I think I'll still need to use ICS. It works fine for connecting my laptop as the ISP only sees one IP address (or is it MAC address?)

I'm gonna give it a go tonight, but I'll probably have to switch the ICS from the wireless card to the new card to connect the new PC.

Unless anyone knows different???

Once you are plugged into a router, your ISP can't tell how many computers are connected to it. All they can tell is that you are using a router and not a lot else.

What your ISP probably said is that they do not support multiple computers, which is not the same thing as you cannot use multiple computers.

Well it turn out a lot simpler than I had imagined.

I simply fitted the spare NIC card to the main PC and connected the new PC to it via a x-over cable and set the main PC to internet connection sharing and now I'm all connected. :-)
