One day, the internet on one of the computers in my office decides to just stop working. So I did tried a number of things and I kept getting an error message, "IP configuration address error " " after typing in WINIPCFG.
NOTE: Onboard network card!
This is what I tried to do to alleviate the problem:
1) Uninstalled network card drivers
2) Reinstalled network card drivers
3) Uninstalled TCP/IP connection
4) Reinstalled TCP/IP Connection
5) Took out the harddrive, put another one in from another computer that has the same O/S. problem --> didn't detect network card.
6) Manually installed network card. Card installed but same error message "ip error". The winipcfg would come up sometimes after trying many attempts to install driver but the internet still would not work.
7) Installed origional harddrive from machine into another machine with Windows 98 SE. Gave me the same error and that machine had a ethernet card.
8) Put an ethernet card in the origional machine, installed driver. It then attempted to install both the onboard driver and the ethernet card drive. So I disabled the onboard one but the internet still wouldnt work. I did get winipcfg response 192. ip address but no outgoing data. Ping would not work!
9) Banged machine against the wall after 7 hours of work! ... didnt fix the problem.

have you tried a different patch lead, or connecting the pc to a different network socket?

Yes... tried it already. I think i'm gonna try to install another network card in the machine and physically disable the onboard card. I have to go to the manufacturers website and see how to disable the card.
