Hey, I'm having a network problem:

It began yesterday night, when I was deep scanning my computer with ESET NOD32, and the internet was still connected, but stopped working. When the scan was over (nothing found), I rebooted the computer, and when I connected to the internet again I found that I couldn't browse any website and neither use Messenger or any other web-based software. I also can't ping websites using their url, but when I ping their IPs it works properly.

Any suggestion?

I'm under a LAN with a hub, a desktop (the XP Pro) and a laptop (Vista - internet works properly here) and my DSL ISP requires username and password. Also, since I formatted the desktop and before that I've been experiencing "Generic Host Process for Win32" error and internet crashes in the desktop.

Ipconfig in the desktop shows as follows:

disable your "local area connection"

Appears you only need the PPP adapter assuming those settings are correct.

If I disable Local Area Connection and try to dial the BrTurbo connection it shows an instant error that would be translated as somewhat like "Destination Unreachable".

And spite of that, I use that Local Area Connection to access the network set between laptop and desktop via hub.

Ah, another thing, my Vista laptop is now recognizing the network as an "Unidentified network" instead of 'Home', as it used to be.

Appears on first blush you had competing ip addresses/interfaces and the OS was defaulting to the wrong one.

Can you explain the 192.168.0.1 ip? You had to have manually setup both these ip addresses since they are static assignments.

You are on a hub not a router. Do both the xp and vista pcs have this issue? Is the vista pc working? If so please provide a ipconfig /all of it also.

The 192.168.0.1 static ip was set by default, it seems Windows XP did that. Vista is set up to obtain IPs automatically.

Internet under Vista is working properly, but now I cannot access XP through Vista and neither Vista through XP. They don't see each other.

Vista's Ipconfig /all:

I tried disabling this static IP, checking for it to obtain an IP adress automatically, and plugging the enet cable directly from the desktop to the dsl modem, without going through the hub. The same thing happens, it connects, autentifies, but it cannot browse or anything. It can ping internet IPs, tho'.
And at least, through disabling that static IP the PCs now see each other, in spite of the fact that Vista keeps reading the network as an Unidentified one.

Any guess?
