OS: xp profesional

Product: Dell/Inspiron 1150
Comment:

I bought a dell inspiron 1150 off ebay. I have installed all drivers etc. I have connected it to the internet through our offices wireless network. however I can not get the computer to connect to the network itself. It can not see any of the 7 computers on the network even when they can see each other. they too can not see my computer. I have gone through the "create home office network" wizard several times but it wont work. please help

make sure your windows firewall is set to trust the local network.

You also need to be in the same workgroup and ip subnet.

Not sure where you are getting your info from but its installed by default.

Simple test. Go to a cmd prompt and type ipconfig. Write down the ip address. Go to another pc and ping that ip address. If it fails your firewall IS engaged and is blocking the network.

the ping didnt work.

however I accessed the files on a computer in the network by typing the IP address in the Run bar.

however the Security center is not on the control panel or in my sys tray and the computer didnt even come with drivers for the wireless network chip when we got it so i wouldnt be surprised if the Security Center isnt installed

If you have installed antivirus, check whether there is firewall feature enabled.. This can be the culprit.. Ensure you can ping the gateway and other computers. Also ensure other computers can ping your computer.
