Hi,

I don't know much about networking, and hope that the description below does not confuse anyone who reads this post.

My home PC connects to a workgroup network, using ASDL and a router. And my PC is not the admin. When I go onto the web using IE 7 (also opera 9, and FireFox), very often the browser keeps on saying "the page cannot be display" (for IE7) or "cannot contact remote server" (for opera), but about 15minutes later it works okey, then for a while, it again says this page cannot be displayed. Then after a while, it works okey again.

This happens all the time. But if i run eMule, it always manages to connect and download.

I have Windows Firewall disabled, AVG running. No proxy settings on my local PC.

Any help is appreciated!

Never diable firewalls, put that back on right now.
My guess is the dns is timing out or too busy.
Try the IP address of the failed name lookup. If so then be sure your router is added to the dns entry or maybe see if your ISP has a secondary dns.
To be sure you can put entries in your hosts file for the 20 or 30 sites you mostly use.

You should also see mvps for their hosts file to help protect your system and add on your favorite places.

Could be an IP lease issue with your router/modem/isp. Normally you could use the "repair" in xp for the nic. Not sure you can without admin.

See also event viewer logs.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
