I have a web server on my 2003 network. All is good but when I set a pc on the domain and have to set the dns to the domain controller instead of the router they can't bring up my web page on the webserver. All other internet access is fine. If I change back to router for dns then all is good, they can view web pages but very long logon. I know its dns but what needs to be done? suggestions
I have had a similar issue with DNS server assignment. Here are two solutions you can use:
#1 Edit or create a HOST file on each of the client machines with the IP and domain of the server (note: this worked wonderful for me and made logons super fast again and brought back browsing of the AD). Windows always looks to the HOST file first for lookup information before looking to DNS.
#2. For the primary DNS server input the local DNS server IP address (ie IP of your server). And leave the secondary DNS server that of your ISP.
Hope this works.
