Hello..i hope someone familiar with Apple Unix can help..
I actually have two, problems, with my IP changing on the
centris every single day, as I'll go into a bit further on...but
first...
I have A/UX running well on my Centris 650, connected to
a D-Link DE-816TP 16 port hub (router?) along with three
other boxes, all of which connect with no problem to the
outside, as well as see each other when using appletalk.
After I installed AUX i did the 'newconfig', entering all the
appropriate info re network settings..the kernel
recompiled with the correct driver (ae0 for a MacCon
card)..
I entered the default gateway via rc (route add default
x.x.x.1 1)
and entered the domain and dns servers in NETADDRS..
I also configured inittab as recommended..
The gateway address doesn't show up in the MacTCP
control panel though, and whenever I try to connect to a
zone I get 'No router address available'
I know it connects fine on that same box, as when booted
into plain old MacOS , using DHCP, it connects just fine.
It's only in A/UX that i get nothing..i can ping the G3 with
zero dropped packets , so I know the card's working and
setup......
I followed exactly the advice on several A/UX sites, which
is the same as the apple support docs advice.
The only thing is that , because A/UX doesn't support
DHCP, the settings that I entered manually were the IP
address and other settings listed when booted into Mac
OS..it's the same box, however, so the info should be the
same, shouldn't it?
My second prob that i really would love some help with is
my main (Mac G3) box has had the same IP forever, but
the Centris seems to keep changing IP addresses
daily, so is there anything i can do to keep it the same?
Every time it changes I have to re-edit all the unix
configuration files by hand (essentially, almost every time
I boot, now...!)
I am not using my MacG3 box as any kind of gateway, i
don't think, as I have only one card in it , and anyways it's
just plugged into the hub same as all the others, so I have
absolutely no idea why it stays the same and the others
keep changing..it's not a mac thing either, i had a BeOS
box and it's IP address kept changing every week or so
too...
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here with the A/UX
box, to get it online, at least connected to the others on
my network, and possibly with the same ip..i've had the
same one on my G3 for at least 3 months that I've noticed,
maybe longer...?
Why would the one keep changing daily while the G3
stay's the same? I've tried switching around the plugs but
it hasn't made any difference
Thanks in advance!
