IE5 doesn't see Im connected wifi

March 21, 2009 at 09:02:46
Specs: Windows 2000, PII/ 256M
I have Win2000. I have aol dialup, but would like to access neighbors wifi broadband when available(with permission, not interested in accessing data from their computer, just want to piggyback on their fast connection). I have Linksys adapter and it is showing that Im connected, but when I open IE5, it says internet can't be found,'page not displayed' etc. But it clearly shows from the wireless adapter software that I am connected. I entered 'Infrastructure' and not 'Adhoc'. What do I need to do to use this wifi connection please?

Did you enter the encryption key?
Did you get an IP address, DNS server and Gateway from that router?

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

ok thanks. Where would I enter those? In IE? There is no place on my adapter software to enter those. Also connections shows WEP disabled. I tried pinging google.com, but came back as unknown host. I have the IE LAN setting at 'automatically detect settings'.

Where do I enter this information below once I get it? Thank you!!!

If your WLAN connection is managed by windows, you have to go to the Wireless Connection properties. There you'll find the option to configure the appropiate settings.
If WEP is enabled at the router, you also need to enable WEP at your Wireless Connection. Therefore you need to know the WEB Key.

In IE you only have to check, whether IE should use your dialup connection automatically.
It shouldn't !!!
