Alright. Heres the scoop. I have an XP Pro machine and a 98 SE Machine networked together. The configuration is like this ....
Comcast cable - cable Modem - NIC on xp machine - 2nd NIC on xp - Hub - NIC on 98 machine with ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) enabled on xp machine. Both are configured with XP ICS wizard.
What's working..
1) I can virtually buttrape the 98 machine with the xp machine (meaning no prob with file sharing give and snag from the xp machine)
2) IM works great on both machines forever.
3) no problems with xp machine at all
What is not working (correctly)
1) Browser on 98 machine only works for 10 - 20 minutes, then won't find any websites. (tried with both IE 6 and NUTSCRAPE 4)
2) Anytime I try to get into the XP machine with the 98 Machine it asks for a password. What F$%%IN password, I have sharing on with no password!!!
PLEASE HELP. But if you aren't a guru, don't bother... I'm not that novice with networking, just having a few configuration problems. I have done some research and tried to fix it but none have worked so far.. such as...
1. fix corrupted Winsock [98 machine]. (uninstalled dial up networking/killed some registry keys, then reinstalled. Didn't work, probably wasn't corrupted, just a suggestion I found from a google search here --> http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1453
2. kill auto detect settings, which the auto config didn't do, microsoft website suggested it. Didn't do anything.
Anyway, IM me, E-mail me, or just post here. I'm getting utterly frustrated....

OK, I got the computers raping each other of files on each others drives, but I'm still having the same browser problems. Also it seems printer sharing is not working with the printer on the xp machine.........
