Hi there,

I had recently placed a help request under somebody's posting. I guess I managed to solve part of the ICS problem.
My client PC (win98se) is able to ping certain sites in the MS-DOS prompt like www.av.com. However, pinging other sites like www.hotmail.com will recieve a request timed out. Sites like www.microsoft.com can't even resolve. When I started Internet Explorer and entered www.av.com, it is not able to access it or anything.

My client config is:
IP: 192.168.0.2
DNS: 192.168.0.1 (my server PC)
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
And I have removed all the TCP/IP bindings which I believe might have helped my previous problem of not being able to connect at all.

Server PC LAN NIC
IP: 192.168.0.1
DNS: Blank

Anybody knows that I can do?
Thanks.

For example purposes only, I will post a scenario like yours here:

I am sitting at a client
IP Address.........192.168.0.2
subnet Mask........255.255.255.0
Default Gateway....192.168.0.1(server)

DNS.........205.229.202.2
alt DNS.....205.229.200.2

Bottom Line....enter the DNS

Ok.
I entered the DNS addresses given by my ISP into the client PC but the same problem persists. Some people tell me to enter the DNS some don't. Anyone knows why it works for so many of you out there but not for me?

Thanks 3lbyt for helping.

Unfortanately I don't have a direct answer for your problem. But I do have a problem close to yours. Using DHCP and DNS-forwarding it will not work at all. And when I use DNS-servers on the clients my ICS-server will dial-up immediately when I log in with a workstation. ( Using a sniffer I found out it starts resolving the DNS-addresses )

So any solution so far hasn't really been a solution.

With regards,

.P.

I'm having similar problems to this and can't find a solution. I had a small network sharing a single internet connection using ICS through a 98se box. Now trying to change this to a 2k server box and have been able to set it up so seeing all the computers isn't a problem, but no internet even though ICS is enabled on the win2k box.
Should the 98 client's Internet settings change under this new setup?
Thanks for any help you can provide! Sorry to just pose problems and not solutions.

John
