Comment:

I have configured my home network with static IP's, the network works fine except that ICS refuses to cooperate. All the literature I have read about ICS says the network should be set up DHCP with the host PC assigning an IP to the client. Is this an absolute? or should I be able to get ICS working over my network with static IP's? I for some reason wasnt able to get the network working using the wizard with dhcp, hence the static IP's..

make sense?

suggestions?

ICS needs DHCP and has it built in.

You can use Static IP's but "you probably should stick to the defaults if you dont understand addressing correctly"

By default ICS installs a basic DHCP Server.

The Host PC is ALWAYS assigned 192.168.0.1 and the 1st Guest is assigned 192.168.0.2 etcetcetc with a Subnet of 255.255.255.000.

Unfortunately unless you use a 3rd Party Software it will no workie any other way, just the way M$ decided to undertake this task......

Try the following software instead:

Get a SOHO router and be done with it. Even if you want static IP's (why does it matter to you btw?), a SOHO router will still work. It's far more reliable, far more secure, and performs better.

And yes, ICS requires the LAN adapter to act as a DHCP server. However, it apparently does not require (at least according to Microsoft documentation) your clients to be DHCP clients.

However, my experience is that it often doesn't work unless your LAN machines are DHCP clients.
