Subject: ICS is not working! Help!

Hello!

Picture the scene:
1 Windows 2000 server machine
4 Windows 2000 professional machines.
They are networked. Server has ASDL internet connection but apparently won't share it.
Why?

Every time we try to enable internet connection sharing, it comes back with two errors:
The Microsoft Firewall service terminated with service-specific error 213000.
and:

The Internet Connection Sharing service depends on the Microsoft Firewall service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service has returned a service-specific error code.

We cannot find out what this error code means.

This is really rather upsetting and is giving me a headache. If you could help us solve this annoying problem, I would be very grateful!

Will

PS.

TCP/IP
and NetBEUI on server

TCP/IP and Client for MS networks on servers.

well i have been through this problem, the problem was that if you are trying to do ics on the server it wont work. becz on server ads is installed. the best solution i suugest is to install isa server on one the system , remember the system should be windows server.
in server the ip is static but when we enable ics it makes it dynamic . so the best solution is to install isa server
if i think of other solution i will post you.

I have had a similar problem before; to my knowledge some carriers (ISP) will provide you with software (on their installation cd's) that will *somehow* disable ICS. What I did in the past was to install a **proxy** server, a little utility, and configure the network card with private IPS for the server and the machine connnecting to it. Once I connected to the ISP (I will receive an IP ADDRESS but for the other card (in other words: my machine had the DSL MODEM WHICH Will be assigned an IP by the ISP, and also a network card, with local IP address for the home network). It sounds long story, but it really works, never a problem and both machines up and running, connected to the internet, and worked like a charm.

There is plenty of free software for creating a simple proxy server.

Hope it helps....
