Hi,
I have a laptop that connects through my desktop to the Internet. Both are on Win XP SP2. When I start up the laptop, it connects onto the Internet with no problems. However, after ten minutes or so, it completely loses Internet access (I've tried different broswers). However, MSN access is unaffected.
I've found that if I change the local IP address of the laptop, then access is restored, but only for ten minutes or so.
I've recently had to format my laptop, but the problem still remains.
Any help needed!

Hi Anderssen,
Please provide the type of Internet Access(DialUp/Cable/DSL/ADSL?) you have and an outline of your LAN with the hardware [ Networking devices (Hub/Switch/Router)+ Cables (Ethernet Straight-Through/Cross- Over/ USB?)] used in setting up the LAN.Without any of these details, no one can really offer any useful troubleshoot.:-)
M

the issue is an xp issue most likely as there is a registry parameter that can be patched. Do a search for some of my previous posts for the registry entry to import.

Hi,
The access provider is blueyonder.
The network card in the laptop is installed as an Accton minipci fast ethernet adapter.
The connection from the laptop to the gateway machine is running through a Vigor 2600 router.
I'm using ethernet cross over cable.
This setup worked with no problems until about a month ago. There was a problem with the network card (a netgear ethernet card) on the desktop machine, and I had to reinstall it. The problem seems to have occurred since then, but both machines have been formatted in the meantime.
Thanks!
Anderssen
