Hi Guys, another ICS and file sharing one I'm afraid. I have trawled the networking problems but can't find this one.

1) I have two computers in my house that are connected via a wireless network. Both are running WIN XP Pro with integrated SP2

2) I have an ASUS WI-FI card acting as a SOFT ACCESS POINT on my main computer, the other computer has a Linksys PCI wireless card installed on it.

3) This wireless network HAS worked for ICS and File sharing previously on an older hard disk on the same computer before the hard disk became corrupt. Since the new disk has been installed, I haven't been able to get internet sharing or file sharing working.

4) The secondary computer with the Linksys card can see my Wireless network on my main computer, and shows as connected. Any changes made on my main computers wireless network, e.g. changing the WEP to disabled, shows up on the secondary computer in the wireless networks list when it is refreshed, so it is deffinately seeing the network.

5) I have checked the settings on my main computer, and as the network was setup using the ASUS WI-FI software, the ASUS Wireless Network Wizard has confirmed that the settings are setup for Internet Connection Sharing (when first installing the ASUS WI-FI you can choose to use the windows wireless setup or the ASUS WI-FI setup - using the ASUS disables the windows wireless settings; the ASUS settings were used when I last had the Internet working on the other computer)

6) I cannot share any folders or files (they have been setup to be shared in the folder properties) and also there is no Internet connection on the second computer.

7) I have setup a wireless network via Windows as well and created a new network connection on both computers so that file sharing and Internet sharing is definately setup - Im not sure whether this is conflicting with the ASUS software - it didn't appear to when it WAS working.

8) It plainly baffles me that although the second computer is setup for Internet and File sharing and CAN SEE THE ASUS network on the main computer, that I still cannot share files or ICS.

9) Finally, I have tried this again and again using different network settings, uninstalled and re-installed the ASUS and LINKSYS wireless cards and have fiddled with FIREWALL settings and switched the firewall off and on and tried it with the exceptions tab settings. ZONEALARM stopped the last setup on the old hard disk from connecting to the Internet, so this was removed.
ZONEALARM IS NOT INSTALLED ON EITHER PC NOW.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Short of formatting my hard-disks, I really do not know what to do.

Thanks for your patience reading this long networking problem guys!

Alex
