I want to shut off my wifi but keep the route

Specs: Windows Vista
Greetings All,

My daughter received an I pad for her recent 16th birthday and so I have added a Wi-Fi router to our home system. My question is how do I shut down the Wi-Fi and maintain access to the internet with my home computer? I am sure that everyone with children understands why I want to have this ability.

It is a 4 part process.

First you have to determine the ip mac address. This should be listed when it is connected under connected devices.

Second youmake a ip reservation that maps a particular dhcp ip address to that mac address. This way the ipad gets the same address everytime.

Third you backup the router config to your desktop with a name like "allowed access".

Fourth you configure the router to block access to that ip address. Usually you have to make a schedule first and then in that schedule you deny access to that ip address. Save this router config as "denied access".

You simply restore the config you want active when you need to. My kids got a lot more homework done when I did this.

You can also just make a schedule that blocks from say 10PM to 6am. This assures no staying up all night.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.
