|It's a bad assumption. NO, in most cases you cannot simply clone an image of the hard drive and slap it on any ole desktop and think that it would work. Two different mainboards, means different drivers. In your case it sounds like you did a normal XP install, and after finding all the drivers XP could, it did not find the ethernet driver. To get that as above, you get the model of the motherboard, look up the maker for your model number and download the driver for the ethernet. If it a network card then you look up the maker and download the driver from their website. Also, in most cases simply copying over the programs file from the laptop will not get all your programs back working on the desktop. Data such as documents, music, favorites and pictures can all be transferred.|
