Ok. I'm kind of a newbie when dealing with networking, but I'm having trouble sharing files through LAN. I understand that you have to set permissions, but I'm not sure how... I'm getting errors such as..."network path could not be found" and sometimes after fooling with it, I get an error saying "the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer" When friends come over, there are no problems at all. The problem comes when trying to share files with other computers in the house. I cant figure it out. It would be appreciated tremendously if anyone could help. Thanks.

Hey, how it going?

Still not enough info. Wireless router, wired router? IP addresses? How are the shares set up? Firewalls?

I think I get your config.

Sounds line you may have internet but can't share files between pcs.

usual case if the xp firewall. for test purposes turn it off [diabled]. if you still can't connect make sure you logon to both pcs with the same account name [spelled the same] and password. if still no go disable simple file sharing [explorer/options] and on the share click 'everyone' and give all rights.

after that we would need specifics :-) to solve the issue.

router doesn't matter. This is all on the switch side.

Specifically what did you do and how did it fail?
What is your workgroup name?
How are you settting up the share?
can you browse to this machine via the lan?

Message to Dave12; I have the same "permission problem" with two xp's directly wired. One sees the other's shares but not the other way around. Command line tests give ERROR 5. I have synchronized everything carefully. No luck despite months of trying. I have scoured the internet for an answer. We need HELP.
